In the post Civil War controversy over the franchise why did some feminist activists support the 15th Amendmen?
In the post Civil War controversy over the franchise why did some feminist activists support the 15th Amendment while others vociferously opposed it? What were the principal arguments on each side? As a 19th century activist, which side would you support?
Read the 15th Amendment
Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
it states that "ALL" persons have right to vote ands that slavery is illegal in the US as suffragettes viewed the plight of women , their inability to hold property and sign contracts, as slavery to men then the 15th amendment made it illegal. I can see their point and I think that they a had a legal leg to stand on it was the times that were against them.
