When you choose what type of bicycle to purchase did you have at the top of your list?
how well the bicycle can handle wind and inclines? It seems when I ride I get a lesson in this area all the time. Much different than looking at specs and pictures. How did you factor in wind and performance? I am asking from the standpoint of efficiency in commuting.
Thanks.
For pulling hills on a hybrid or performance hybrid - front chainring 28/38/48. Rear cog - a 13-34 cassette, not a freewheel, a cassette.
For a road bike...most will have something around a 30/42/52 front chainring & about a 12-26 cassette on the rear. Higher for real hill pulling power as in a touring road bike. That may have something around a 11-34 rear cassette also. But touring road bikes are usually a bit heavier & require that low gear ratio.
